For more than 50 years, Vision Care Associates has provided a full range of optometry and eye care services in Parkersburg, WV. Drs. Scott and Vicki Lauer bought the practice in 2007, and moved it to its current location in 2013. This new location offers patients and families modern eye care in a convenient location.

Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Vicki B. Lauer graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Florida in her home state. She is a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. During clinical rotations, Dr. Lauer refined skills in contact lens fits, ocular disease treatment and children’s vision. Dr. Vicki Lauer is current with the newest developments in vision care, prescribing the latest in contact lens materials and glaucoma medications. Amblyopic eye therapy and refractive surgery measurements are also areas of skill. Dr. Vicki Lauer is known for taking the time to explain options and results to every patient. Active in the community, Dr. Lauer has served as an optometrist for a local nursing home, and performs county-wide vision screenings and eye exams. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the West Virginia Optometric Association. A mother of two, Dr. Vicki Lauer is dedicated to providing the best vision to patients of all ages.
Dr. Deanna L. Jackson, a native of Parkersburg, graduated from West Virginia University and Southern College of Optometry. She has extensive training in primary eye care, ocular disease and contact lenses from her rotations in New Mexico, North Carolina and Tennessee. Dr. Jackson received additional ophthalmologic experience through participating in several service trips to Central and South America. She has been nationally recognized for her optometric work and service by inductions into Gold Key and Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Societies. Dr. Jackson is up-to-date with the latest in vision technology and makes it a point to share the latest trends with her patients. She is active in the American Optometric Association and West Virginia Optometric Association.
Dr. Jerry Lantz graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1972. He graduated from the College of Wooster in 1976 with a bachelor of arts degree in biology. In 1983, he earned the doctor of optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. Dr. Lantz opened his private practice of optometry in 1985 and continued in solo practice until joining Vision Care Associates in 2013. “After 28 years, I am happy to be a part of a group practice where I have access to more diagnostic procedures and input from other doctors,” he says. Dr. Lantz has been specializing in vision disorders and vision therapy his entire career. He is a member of a study group called the Behavioral Vision Project. He is also a member of the Optometric Extension Program Foundation, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and the College of Syntonic Optometry along with the WV Association of Optometric Physicians and the American Optometric Association. He has extensive experience working with school-aged children with learning difficulties. He has also worked with adults as well as head trauma victims needing vision therapy. He continues to practice full-scope optometry including contact lenses and eye diseases.
Dr. Robert Welshans was born and raised in Wheeling, WV. He graduated high school from Linsly Military Institute. He did his pre-optometry undergraduate studies at West Liberty University. Dr. Welshans graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. During his internships in Tarpon Springs, Florida — at St. Luke’s Cataract and Inter-Ocular Lens Institute — he studied advanced techniques in intraocular lens and cataract surgery. He specializes in treating anterior eye disease, managing macular degeneration and glaucoma. As well as pre and post operative care for refractive and cataract surgery. Dr. Welshans has been practicing optometry in the Parkersburg/Vienna area since 1987. He opened his private practice in 1991 and joined Vision Care Associates in 2014. Dr. Welshans is an active member of the West Virginia Optometric Physicians Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Welshans is married and is the father of one daughter.
