The glare from the summer sun means you’ll have to wear sunglasses for most of the day. But for those who need eyeglasses, that’s just not possible. Contact lenses are always an option; you can always wear a pair of sunglasses over them. However, it’s not advisable to do so on the beach; wind-blown sand can irritate your eyes.
Left with no alternative, some resort to carrying around different pairs of eyeglasses and sunglasses. But that’s neither practical nor cost-effective.
You could try getting a pair of prescription sunglasses. With them, you can enjoy all that summer has to offer without ever worrying about your eyes. There are a few things you need to know before you buy a new pair, however. Vision Care Associates, the state’s go-to clinic for medical eye care, lists them down below.
Curved sunglasses look sleek and stylish, but they’re not the most practical frame style. It’s best to avoid sunglasses with extreme curves, as these can distort your vision.
Speaking of style, you’ll be glad to know that you can choose any tint for your lenses; they don’t affect the level of UV protection. You will still need to check with your eye doctor if your new sunglasses provide 100% UV protection, however.
Glass and Photochromic Lenses
When it comes to visual quality, glass lenses are the best. However, they are extremely fragile. Since sunglasses are usually worn outdoors, glass lenses might not be the best option. But if you only wear sunglasses while you’re driving, glass lenses will be perfectly fine.
Of course, not everyone likes to be seen wearing sunglasses; they’re not what you would call appropriate indoors. But with lenses photochromic tint, you can have a pair of sunglasses that’s suitable outdoors and indoors. Photochromic lenses darken when exposed to UV light and return to a lighter shade in the absence of sunlight.
Before you can pick a pair, you need to undergo an eye exam to determine the thickness of your lenses.
